Mel C's still
spicy // Liverpool Echo
Judging by the
audience's reaction it won't be long before Miss Chisholm is at
number one again. AS a Spice Girl Mel C performed in front of hundreds
of thousands of adoring fans. But
last night, she took to the stage before an audience of just 300
at a secret gig at Liverpool University. She
made the surprise appearance at the university's Stanley Theatre,
now known as the Academy 2. It was her first gig in two years.
The 29-year-old
star made sure the audience knew that Liverpool was her first choice
for the warm-up gig for her next tour, which kicks off next month.
The set began with a number of hits from her new album, which demonstrated
Melanie's transition from pop princess to rock diva.
She has been
linked to Robbie Williams in the past and, without doubt, is his
female alter-ego. However, you can't help feeling that Melanie might
have a bit more talent up her sleeve than Stoke's finest. Headbanging
Melanie showed off her new slimline figure in low-slung jeans and
tight black top - defying critics who claimed earlier this week
that her picture had been airbrushed for the cover of her new album.
During the half
hour set Mel performed her latest single Here It Comes Again as
well as classics such as Never Be The Same Again and When You're
Gone, which she dueted with fellow rocker Bryan Adams. The audience,
a mixture of students, teenagers, schoolchildren and mums and dads,
seemed quite subdued while Melanie sang through her new material.
But her
fans, many of whom had won tickets for the secret concert, came
alive when she performed the older songs.
Mel was delighted
to inform the crowd that her new stuff had won her the number four
slot in the mid-week charts.
